Reseña: The Organic Geochemistry Atlas or Colombia provides the lecturer with an overview of the main characteristics of source rock an crude oils recognized in Colombia. The data compiled in this work is update to 2002, and it has been taken from the Organic Geochemistry Database of the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH, 2006). The information is presented in a simple and graphical way.

The Atlas is alphabetically organized, following the nomenclature an boundaries proposed by the ANH for the Colombian sedimentary basins (Barrero et al. 2007).

The geochemical information, from 17 basins, deals with source rock analyses, organic matter content (%TOC), Rock-Eval pyrolysis, organic petrography, crude oil and extract analyses —like bulk analysis—, as well as liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, biomarkers and isotopes.

The available data were used to determine the source rock types and to generate crude oil and gas characterization graphs of depositional, maturity maps of the main source rocks. Based on this information some insights on the source rocks and accumulations found in the Colombian basins are presented.

The Organic Geochemistry Atlas of Colombia is intended go assist E&P professionals interested in understanding the origin and evolution of source rocks and crude/gas accumulations suspected to be present in any of the analyzed basins.

Therefore, the Organic Geochemistry Atlas of Colombia is expected to become a valuable tool helping to reduce exploratory risks and to be used for educational purposes.
